Summer trip 2011

We flew to Atlanta on Monday 30th May for +5 weeks trip. Only Colin and I - no kids.
What would we do for such a long break from the kids.
Rest and relaxation! You must be joking!

Week 1 (30th May to 5th June) was spent in and around Aberdeen, Mississippi. Tornado damage in Smithville is awful. Decimated the town. Nothing left, very sad.

Week 2 (6th to 12th June) - we set off for McAllen, Texas via New Orleans. Drove to New Orleans, did some sightseeing before the hail storm came on. Drove to Lake Charles, LA to spend one night in a hotel. Next morning set off for Texas and drove to McAllen to visit Bernie & Archie McKnight.

Week 3 (13th to 19th June) - In and around Aberdeen, MS shopping and shopping and shopping....
Went to auction at Cedarwycke, Hamilton, Mississippi on 17th and 18th June.

Week 4 (20th to 26th June) - we set off for Orlando, Florida. Drove straight through. Stayed for 3 nights in hotel in Kissimmee. Drove home to Aberdeen on 23rd June.

Week 5 (27th to 3rd July) - more shopping and sightseeing including a trip to James Chaney gravesite in Meridian, MS. James was a victim of racially motivated murder which was inspiration for the movie Mississippi Burning starring Gene Hackman.

Week 6 (4th July to 7th July) - 4th July at Dan and Jan Barnette's home with our friends from the Aberdeen Breakfast Club.

A trip to the Cabin at Crows Neck resort, Tishomingo, Mississippi with Charlie Kelly and family

Flew back to Edinburgh on Thursday 7th July - arrived home on Friday 8th July.
